Often record labels work only with artists of a certain genre such as a hip hop label that only puts out hip hop music. Some labels put out artists representing many genres. Usually record label representatives approach bands the label is interested in signing. Sometimes bands approach labels by sending a company a demo. Record labels promote artists on the Web, on radio, on television and in print media. Larger or major record labels usually have more reach than smaller record companies or independent record labels.
