When people say "recycling," the first thing that comes to mind is curbside waste disposal - reducing trash by re-using resources such as tin cans, plastic bottles and newspapers. But the big work of recycling is often done behind the scenes, with seriously heavy equipment. Recycling plants deal as much with industrial and construction waste - tree- and land-clearing debris and compost, crumbled asphalt, gypsum drywall, demolition reclamation (wood and concrete waste), and aggregate shipping waste (both import and export) on a grand scale. Recycling companies use large equipment (conveyor belts, crushing and grinding machines, screens and so on) to deal with enormous amounts of recyclable garbage, along with the more commonly thought of picking stations to sort items out.
