A roof structure is an essential part of any building construction. A roof is the top covering of a building that prevents the ingress of weather into the building interior. Roof designs come in pitched, low slope or flat form; however, roofs should never be truly flat. Wind effects are often the driving factor in the design of large roof structures. In particular, turbulent wind flows have the potential to exert significant loading on large lightweight roof structures including augmentations due to dynamic effects. Wind flows are important for the environmental and serviceability design of the enclosed, as well as the external, spaces.
