State Legislators
State legislators are made up of a general assembly of congressional and senate politicians who operate at the state level. Officially, they have about the same influence over a state’s laws and policies as the US Congress has over the federal government. They can approve tax cuts and increases, vote on constitutional amendments, and create laws. Like the federal government, there is a checks and balances system that regulate the amount of power that each branch of the state legislator, courts, and presidential executive have so that one body’s political influence does not go unchecked by other legislative officials. The congress is made up of a house and senate. The senators and representatives are voted into the state offices through general elections that are held at the state level. If you would like to learn more about the upcoming actions that your legislator officials are planning, then you will need to find out who the rep for your area is. Most states have websites where you can find out who represents your area. You can also look up the numbers to the congressional offices in the online directory. When you call them, you should ask them if there are any bills, tax cuts or increases, laws, or amendments that will be discussed in the next legislative meeting. If there are, then you might want to get some information about these subjects so that you can leave a message or email with your law maker representative encouraging him or her to support your views.

The internet can be an excellent resource to learn about the state legislators that represent your geographical region. A state legislator is an elected official who is on the legislative body of the first-level political subdivision in a federal system. Every state except Nebraska has a bicameral legislature, meaning that the legislature consists of two separate legislative chambers (or "houses"); Nebraska has a unicameral or one-house legislature. Many citizens want to know the voting history and political track record of their state legislators. They often want to write letters or send emails to state legislators to let the state legislators know how they and other citizens feel about particular political issues.
