In general terms, a television producer oversees the making of television programs. A producer initiates, plans, coordinates, supervises and controls all aspects of the television production process, including creative, financial, technological and administrative facets. The producer will be involved throughout all phases of production from inception to completion, including coordination, supervision and control of all of the various talents and crafts, subject to the provisions of their collective bargaining agreements and personal service contracts. A television producer may work independently, or be subject to the authority of an employer. There are various subcategories of television program producers, including executive producer, associate producer, co-producer, supervising producer, segment producer, coordinating producer, and line producer.
