A car's transmission is the part of the internal combustion engine which helps transmit power from the engine to some sort of output device using a hydraulic or gear system. A car's transmission can often become damaged or broken through heavy use, making it necessary for the car's owner to purchase a new transmission. Some damaged transmissions may only require the car owner to purchase a new part. Transmissions and transmission parts can usually be purchased through an auto parts store or directly from the car's manufacturer. In manual transmission cars, the transmission is mainly used to operate and change the gear system.
