Valves are mechanisms that regulate and control the flow of fluids or air through pipes. Fittings are devices that are used to tie together two tubes or two pipes. Fittings and valves are often sold by the same retailers, distributed by the same wholesalers and manufactured by the same manufacturer. There are many different kinds of fittings and valves. Plumbers buy fittings for water pipes and valves that control the flow of water. Hydraulic companies buy hydraulic fittings and hydraulic valves. Auto mechanics buy fittings needed for cars and tire valves, poppet valves, and other valves used in automobiles.
