How to Choose Vietnamese Food
--Typical Vietnamese Food--
Vietnamese food can be divided into three basic categories, depending on the region from which it originated. North Vietnam has many of Vietnam's most famous dishes, such as “pho.” The North's cuisine is more traditional and more strict in choosing spiciness and ingredients. The South's cuisine has been influenced by the cuisines of southern Chinese immigrants, and thus Southerners prefer sweet flavors in many dishes. Central Vietnamese food differs greatly from the other regions. It is commonly served with many small side dishes, and also has a distinct spiciness when compared to the foods of other regions. But regardless of the region, home-style Vietnamese food generally involves an array of simple dishes that make complementary partners at a family's communal meal. Dinners customarily call for a soup, probably a platter of leafy greens accompanied by rice papers and a dipping sauce, seafood or grilled meats or poultry, a vegetable stir-fry, and rice or noodles in some form - with hot tea as the preferred beverage. Throughout all regions of Vietnam, the emphasis is usually on serving fresh vegetables and/or fresh herbs as side dishes along with dipping sauces. T
--Choosing Vietnamese Restaurants--
If you are looking for a truly traditional Vietnamese food experience, visiting a Vietnamese restaurant may be your best bet. To help you choose the right restaurant to experience Vietnamese food at its best, there are a number of criteria to consider. Most Vietnamese restaurants are casual places with café-style tables and a casual environment. Others can be formal, high-end restaurants with linen tablecloths and an expensive menu. Your first consideration may be budget and style of dining. You may want to ask if the restaurant specializes in Vietnamese food from a particular region.
