The tone of the violin is very important and if you are a beginning violinist, then you can get away with purchasing an instrument with less-than-perfect tone. That said, you should always try to find the violin with the best tone that you can reasonably afford. Do not pay much attention to the label on a violin, as faux labels are often placed on machine-made instruments to make them look more expensive. Once you know what kind of violin you want to buy, you will be ready to find a violin dealer. If you are a serious musician, you probably know where the reputable violin dealers are. If you are a beginner, ask a serious violinist, such as a violin teacher, where you should buy a violin. Make sure you buy a violin from a dealer that allows you to play the instrument before you purchase it. You may also want to ask music teachers at local high schools or local colleges where the best place to purchase a violin is for someone of your playing level. You may also want to consider renting a violin if you are unsure as to your dedication to the instrument. Many violin dealers rent out violins to those who are just starting to play.
