Common Adoption Terms Defined

Many foster children and orphans are looking for a permanent, loving home. Unfortunately, adopting an orphan or foster child is filled with complicated tasks and complicated terms. With this list of popular adoption terms even your dog will be prepared to start exploring.

  • Adoption Facilitator – An adoption facilitator’s purpose is to bring birth parents in contact with prospective parents.
  • Closed Adoption – A closed adoption, sometimes called a traditional adoption, means that the child and adoptive family do not have any contact the with child’s birth mother or father.
  • Home Study – A home study is part of the pre-adoption assessment that all prospective families are required to complete. A home study will evaluate the living arrangements, including cleanliness, safety, and even the presence of a dog or cat. This home study ensures everything is fully prepared for a new family member.
  • Independent Adoption – An independent adoption takes place directly between the birth parents and the adoptive parents. An attorney’s counsel is often recommended to ensure that all parts of the adoption process occur legally.
  • Open Adoption – An open adoption is where contact is maintained with the birth mother and father of the adopted child. The type of contact in an open adoption can vary from occasional picture sharing to frequent visits and phone calls.
  • Private Agency Adoption – A private agency adoption occurs after the birth mother and father have relinquished all legal rights to their child. At this point the kid becomes a foster child with a public or private agency and may be adopted by another family.
  • Public Agency Adoption – A public agency adoption occurs after a birth mother and father have lost all legal rights to their child. The child is placed with the Department of Social Services so that a new family may be found.

Adoption services are available to men and women across the United States. However, these agency locations generally have strict guidelines when it comes to an individual or family adopting an orphan or taking in a foster child. Then again, there are many single women, gay couples and individuals that are unable to conceive a baby, who adopt a kid. There are also pet adoption centers that provide homes for dogs and cats. The reality is that not every pregnancy is intentional or desired. In this case, many women make the decision to put their infant up for adoption. After all, not everyone is ready to be a parent. Fortunately, there are many women and men, who are anxious to become mothers and fathers. Therefore, an adoption service or orphan agency can be very helpful. Just so you know, there are certain law or legal matters that must be addressed when a foster kid or orphan is adopted. This is why many people acquire the assistance of an attorney or legal counselor in order to adopt a child properly. There are also international adoptions that are regulated by law and it is important to obtain the right help when adopting a kid from overseas as well. In order to learn more about child or dog adoptions, you should refer to websites that you find on the internet. Online you can actually get more information on child adoption, orphan care services, legal resources and how surrogacy plays a role when a family adopts. As you may know, the surrogate parents or birth parents must give up their rights to the child.
