  • Brass – Brass refers to the empty shell of ammunition that has been used.
  • Caliber – Caliber is the diameter of a cartridge. This measurement can also be used to refer to the internal diameter of a firearm’s barrel.   • Cartridge – This is an entire, complete bullet. There are many other terms that refer to complete bullets, with round being another popular one. Cartridges are often for sale in bulk quantities. Ammunition obtained in bulk or from surplus stores will usually be cheaper.
  • Chamber – This is the part of a firearm where cartridges are inserted.
  • Magazine – This is a spring loaded container designed to hold cartridges and feed them into the gun. Some magazines are detachable. Remington and other gun makers offer a variety of magazines, clips, and other cartridge storing devices.
  • Primer – Primer is part of a cartridge. Within this small compartment is a combustible substance. When this substance ignites, it expels the bullet from the gun.
  • Rifling – Rifling refers to the spiraled grooves in a cartridge. These grooves cause the bullet to spin, promoting precision.
