The world would be a pretty bleak place without art, and artists to create those works. These talented professionals are trained in all sorts of artistic mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, and watercolors. Artists aren’t just confined to pen and paper, however they can also specialize in things like landscape and architecture design. They may also take their talents to the computer and create graphics arts for websites, short films, and video games.
Artists may work out of their homes, but many work out of a studio. Others work for a large commercial advertising agency where they may utilize computer software to produce artistic modern designs that catch the eye. They may produce something as big as a billboard, or as small as an oil-on-canvas painting within a gallery. They use mediums ranging from clay to make pottery, to acrylics. The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating a work of art.
You may see artists out in the park painting a fall scene, or you may see one or two within a gallery at a showing. Some are famous and well-known, but many are referred to as starving artists who are struggling to get recognized on a local level. They use a variety of tools, supplies, and materials to achieve their creations, such as paint brushes, paper, oils, portrait easels, and pencils. Their hands are their most important instrument, especially when it comes to sculptures.
Artists may hold formal training, or they may be self-taught. They may display their works in local community centers, schools, and libraries, and some display their work within famous art galleries. These works of art are typically for sale, or in the case of an auction, prospective buyers can bid on a piece of art, such as a modern portrait or contemporary mural.
When you think of an artist, you might have a picture in your mind of a painter who makes original, creative works that are displayed in a famous gallery. There are also many other types of artists, though, that make artwork other than paintings. Some of them do not even work in the visual arts. Anyone that is a creator is essentially an artist, even if that creator writes poetry, raps, is a musician who plays in a band, makes tattoos, or applies makeup. While art is a creative endeavor, there is also a business behind it. Makeup artists, graphic artists, musicians, bands, tattoo artists, and artists who make pictures must purchase equipment and supplies. Musicians are involved in a music business that distributes their music to fans. Those who make sculptures and artwork need to purchase clays and paints. Even graffiti artists need to purchase spray paint and tattoo artists need to purchase ink. Contemporary and historic paints and other types of original artwork are also sold to consumers. Sometimes these works of art are inexpensive and can be afforded by average consumers who would like to add beauty to their homes. Those artworks that cost a lot of money, though, are often bought by a company that has access to larger amounts of funds. Regardless of whether one is a graphic artist that wants to have a career or a person who likes to make pictures or other types of artwork as a creative outlet, there are lots of people that find that the experience is very rewarding.
