Important Terms to Know about Axles
These important terms about axles could help you choose products and services that match your needs:
Dead Axle: Also called a "lazy axle." This type of axle is not connected to the drivetrain. Instead, they are free floating. For example, a front-wheel drive car could have a dead axle for the rear tires because it is not connected to the drivetrain.
Drive Axle: An axle that is connected to an engine via a drivetrain or driveshaft. The engine delivers power to the drive axle, which makes it rotate.
Torque: Rotating force. In drive axles, torque rotates the axle, which also makes the wheels rotate.
Wheel Hubs: The center of a wheel. The axle attaches to the hub, which allows it to rotate the wheels. Some wheels are considered hubless. More accurately, though, they have hubs that are nearly as large as the actual wheel. While the hub is not located directly in the center, it still connects the wheel to the axle. This type of wheel, however, uses a hollow axle.
Axial Bearing: A mechanical element that allows the axle to rotate freely without disengaging from a car, truck, or other type of vehicle.
Ball Joint: Ball joints are spherical bearings that play an important role in automobile suspension. An enclosed socket allows the spherical bearing and the control arm attached to it to rotate easily. The encasement also prevents dirt from getting into the ball joint, which could prevent it from rotating as designed. These joints are also used in construction equipment, trucks, and a wide range of pneumatic tools.
Many people need axles, but they might not know how to choose a company that can offer them all of the trailer parts axle gear supplies and services that they need. By following these guidelines, though, you should be able to find axle company that is best for you. Many people need rubber torsion axles for their utility and cargo carts. If this is the type of axle that you need, you should be certain to choose a manufacturer that produces them along with any brakes, drums, seals, hubs, actuators, trailer parts, utility, rubber, torsion, gear, cargo, fifth wheel, electric brakes, bearings, lube, disc, controller, air flex, u-bolts, spindle parts, spring hangers, joints, or other parts that you might need. In order to find the company that can give you all of the services and products that you need, you should ask several questions. Companies that have several years of experience can often offer you better services and more products than those that have fewer years of experience, so ask the companies how long they have been in business. Asking them for references and if they are affiliated with any other companies or organizations can also help you determine how reliable the companies will be. Customer service is also very important. In order to determine how much importance the companies place on their customers, you should ask the companies what levels of customer service they can offer you.
