Baseball Sports Cards & Memorabilia
Baseball is America's favorite pastime. It is also a multi-million dollar industry with revenues generated from everything from game tickets to memorabilia that commemorates the players who star in the games. Baseball trading cards are perhaps the most popular form of merchandise. They have been around since 1869 and have created a connection between teams, players and fans ever since. The trading card memorabilia collection hobby started out as a type of business card that advertised businesses or products. They began to feature images of baseball players, capitalizing on the rising popularity of the sport, even if it had nothing to do with what was being advertised. Baseball trading cards have been sold in packs of chewing gum and cigarettes, as well as with bread. Kids and adults alike enjoy the fun of collecting, trading and selling. They feature images of professional players such as prints on older cards, photo on cards after the 1950s with stars batting or pitching along with stats on the back. Cards aren't the only collector's items on the sport memorabilia market. Autographed photos, jerseys and signed baseballs are special items to tantalize die-hard fans. Those who trade and collect should beware, though, of the prolific amount of forgeries and reproductions for sale. Demand authentication certificates on signed items from certified experts before making purchases. Whether it's a business or a hobby, a rare rookie card or the latest release, baseball card collecting is an enjoyable habit that knows no age limits and has lasting value.
