Definitions of Beauty Salon Equipment
It takes a lot of equipment to run a beauty salon. Considering the hairdressing supplies, the hair products, the styling chairs, the special washing and drying stations, one can see it is a considerable investment in furniture and equipment. Often money can be saved by buying these items wholesale or directly from the manufacturers. Below are some common terms for beauty salon supplies.
Wholesale -The sale of goods to retailers, professionals or other businesses besides a usual customer. They often buy in bulk and sale in smaller amounts. Often, wholesalers do not have to charge sales taxes on their products.
Styling chairs – Special chairs that make hairdressing and cutting hair easier because they can be raised, lowered and swiveled. Using this chair, the stylist or barber can cut with scissors without having to bend over.
Styling stations – Desk areas for the stylists. They include mirrors, drawers and storage space for common items like sterilizer fluid, hair products and scissors
Waxing stations – Depending on the type of waxing work being done, these can either be chairs or beds so that the customer can relax while the stylist works on them. Usually waxing stations should be in private areas of the salon.
Shampoo area – Chairs with sinks attached behind them and backs that can be raised and lowered so that stylists can wash customers' hair.
Dryers and steamers – Specialized chairs with drying or steaming units placed on top. The customer can sit in the chair and have the dryer swivel to fit over their head.
Spa chairs – These are perfect for manicures and pedicures. Often they are heavily padded and have electric massage capability. Most will also have a basin in the foot area for pedicures.
