Key Terms Relating to Boat Repair

When you have a marine vessel or boat that needs repairing, you will need to find a reputable business to do the work. Most repair shops will have the ability to work with whatever type of vessel you have. This includes marine vessels and fiberglass boats. There are variations depending on the type of engine you have as well. If you are not sure what the problem is, a repair shop can diagnose the issue to determine what needs to be repaired. Before you move forward with getting your boat repaired, the following are key terms to help you during the process.

  • Outboard - An detachable motor that is located on the boat's stern on the sides of the boat. Any business that does boat repair should have knowledge regarding your outboard engine. These engines can be either diesel or gas.
  • Inboard - A motor that is located on the inside of the vessel. These engines are available in diesel or gas. Find a company that has experience with the type of motor you have.
  • Epoxy - A glue or sealant that is used frequently for building boats.
  • Stern - The back part of the boat.
  • Hull - The body of the vessel.
  • Fiberglass - A common boat finish that is easy to maintain. If you have a fiberglass boat that needs repair, you will want to find a company that specializes in that type of repair. Most repair shops that work with boats will have extensive knowledge regarding fiberglass boats.
