    Nuts and bolts come in a variety of types and sizes. Other fasteners such as screws and rivets are often sold alongside them. Fasteners also include washers and other plumbing supplies. Most are made of metal. Wooden pegs are used by carpenters and in constructing all wood buildings. Plastic screws may sometimes be used. There are also various kinds of bolts including eye bolts and anchor bolts. Most bolts have a 'male' thread, with the thread on the outside. Rarely a 'female' thread, on the inside of the bolt, is used in conjunction with a second bolt or screw. Eye bolts are often used to run rope for lifting items. Nuts and bolts are generally intended for purposes where the fastener needs to be relatively easily undone. Permanent fastening is generally done with rivets.
