Terms to Know About Bridal Shops and Services
Organizing a wedding can be exciting, but involves a great deal of planning and decision-making beyond just choosing the dress. With the average total cost running around $27,000, it’s also important to budget and shop carefully. There are many professionals available to assist you in arranging your big day. Below are a few terms to be familiar with.
Wedding Planner — A person or company hired to assist the bride in planning the ceremony and reception. Their services can include helping prepare the guest list, helping decide the theme (formal or informal) and choose the gown, locating venues, and hiring contractors such as the caterer, photographer and a band or DJ.
Caterer — Someone hired to provide food and drinks for guests at the reception, including staff to serve the food, clear tables, and clean-up afterwards. Some caterers may also supply the tables, chairs, and decorations.
Bridal Boutique — A retail shop where you can purchase the gown, the dress for the maid of honor, and the bridesmaids’ dresses. Many also sell accessories such as jewelry, shoes, handbags, and headpieces. A bridal boutique may even carry invitations and gifts for bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Florist — A professional hired to design and deliver flower arrangements. The flower arrangements can be elaborate or modest depending on your budget, and may also vary according to the season.
Beauty Services — Hair styling and make-up applications done the day of the ceremony. Services can be arranged for the bride, her mother, the maid of honor, and others participating in the ceremony, including the groom and groomsmen.
