Candles are used for a number of reasons. Scented pillars can be used in aromatherapy sessions, while floating votives can be used to set a romantic ambiance. Wax sticks can be used in chandeliers to light up a room, while oil lamps can provide light in the harshest of situations. Before electricity, the only light available at night was either from the moon or from candles. Each civilization developed the wax creations in their own way. Historically, candles were made from the fat of various animals or from bees. The wicks were made from rice paper and various other materials before cord became the wick of choice. Candles now come in all shapes, sizes and colors. While previously made of fat, these creations are now made of paraffin, soybean or a flammable gel. Smaller versions, like tea lights, are often found only in white, but you can make tall pillars, sticks or even birthday candles to be any color. Some products are held within large jars and are often scented for the enjoyment of the customer. You can often find supplies to make your own products at wholesale costs, especially if you own a shop of some type. Already made products, like tapered soy sticks or votive holders, can also be found in bulk at wholesale prices, though pre-made may not be as high a quality as what you may create yourself. Be sure to exercise caution when working with flammable materials. Candles can be a sever fire hazard when left unattended, so be sure to always distinguish a candle before leaving the room.

Candles make a great gift for many occasions including a birthday. The candle industry has grown far past the world of plain wax and simple wicks. Using the web you can find all types of candles including floating, soy and scented. If you have an interest in scented candles it can be a good idea to check a local shop so that you can smell the scents in person. When purchasing candles to go in a holder, the tall, taper style ones usually work well. Make sure to cut the wick before lighting your new decoration. Since candle sticks come in all sizes, you want to make sure that your new sticks will fit in your holder. These type also work well in chandelier lamps. If you are shopping for a friend who loves to relax, you may want to purchase wax aromatherapy candles or tea lights for a gift. Bath oil makes a great accompanying gift. Soy candles can also be relaxing and come in all sorts of wonderful smelling flavors. When making a religious wreath or decoration for your church you can purchase wholesale supplies and materials online in bulk. Look for votive white candles to achieve the perfect effect. Large and small pillar candles can be appropriate when trying to create a romantic scene around the house. Stack the pillars at all different levels. Gel candles which can be found in jars, glasses and more are among the industry's newest craze. The gel comes in many colors. These items make a great favor at a party.
