Cell Phone Service and Repair – Important Terms to Know

The cell phone has become a necessity for millions of people. When call or text service is interrupted or a repair is necessary, customers hope to achieve the quickest fix possible. Below are some common terms to be familiar with when seeking to improve cell phone service, or when repairs are necessary.

  • Service Plan – A contract agreement between a customer and a wireless or cell phone company that determines what services are offered at a monthly or annual rate. Repair issues may also be covered in the contract.
  • Prepaid – One of the faster growing market segments of the wireless industry is prepaid cell phones, which do not require a contract. Users pay in advance for an established amount of call time, but may have to pay extra if a fix is necessary.
  • OEM – OEM is short for original equipment manufacturer, or the company that built the phone.
  • Activation – When a new mobile phone is purchased, activation is necessary by the cell phone company. This may require entering a PIN number or registering the phone.
  • Bandwidth – The capacity of a wireless communications channel is measured in bandwidth. Insufficient bandwidth can result in slower call speed. A repair company can determine if this is the case.
  • Broadband – Larger frequencies that make mobile high-speed communication possible.
  • Battery – The rechargeable device that powers a cell phone.
  • Dropped Call – A dropped call is one that is interrupted or cut off. This can be due to poor service area reception, or can be an indicator that a repair is necessary.

Choosing the right cell phone provider is definitely important, and often tricky. But few people realize that choosing the right cell phone repair service is just as important, and sometimes just as tricky. Whether you own a phone with a prepaid plan or a pay-as-you go plan, you'll need you phone repaired somewhere along the line. And when you do need to use a repair service, it's important to find a service center that will fit all of your needs. You'll definitely want to find a service center with excellent customer support. You'll also want to make sure that your service center isn't a great distance from your home or the company where you work. If you have to drive an exceptionally long distance just to have your screen replaced, you'll definitely be annoyed! Once you've found a repair center close to your home, you'll want to stop by the shop to check up on the customer service and merchandise at that particular location. Do the employees there seem knowledgeable about their jobs? Do they know all the latest mobile and wireless options? Can they fix broken cell phone parts? Can they help you find a plan that will enable you to text often and make occasional calls? Can they help you unlock special mobile services and answer questions about your contract? If you've answered yes to all of these questions, then you've probably found a shop with great customer service. Now, quickly peruse the shop to see if a variety of new and used mobiles are available at relatively cheap prices. Check to see if a nice accessory or two for your wireless phone is available as well. If you see these things, congratulations, you've found a great service and repair shop - they'll be able to fix whatever you send them!
