Important Wholesale Chemicals Terms

Countless companies around the world use various types of chemicals for manufacturing goods and products. This is why wholesale suppliers and distributors provide these chemicals in bulk, and at discounted rates. As you may be aware, certain chemicals are needed to make anything from pesticides, to perfumes, to shoes. Some are even used to manufacture clothing, pharmaceuticals, and plastics. Below you will find some useful terminology that applies to wholesale chemical distributors and suppliers.

  • Polymers – A chemical type that is used to make many types of man made fibers and plastics. Polymers are commonly used in the manufacturing of toys, containers, games, shoes, pipe and appliances.
  • Organic Compound – This includes a wide variety of substances that are primarily made up of hydrogen and carbon. These compounds may also contain elements like oxygen or nitrogen, but do not contain carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide.
  • Isopropyl Alcohol – A chemical compound that is colorless and pungent in odor. It is very flammable, and is often used as a solvent or in products like antifreeze. This type of alcohol is very easy to come by, and is not expensive.
  • Surfactant – This is a compound that lowers the surface tension of a liquid. Surfactants are generally found in products like detergents, inks, laxatives, paints, and even fabric softeners for clothes.
  • Herbicide – A chemical substance that is toxic to weeds, plants, and other vegetation. People with farms and gardens typically spray herbicides on unwanted plants in order to kill them. Like pesticides, specific chemicals are used in herbicides.

With so many industries in need of chemicals on a daily basis, it’s necessary for a company to have a regular source to turn to when it needs bulk amounts of, say, ammonia, rubbing alcohol, organic pesticides, and pool supplies such as chlorine. Chemical wholesalers sell bulk quantities at a discount to retailers and other customers who need a lot of one product at once. For example, farmers and gardeners may want to buy lots of pesticides and herbicides at once for their crops. A hospital, laboratory, pharmaceutical company, or clinic may need large amounts of rubbing alcohol, solvents, ammonia, and solutions. Retail pharmacies, grocery stores, and department stores need to keep their shelves stocked with cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and detergents. Same goes for janitorial services that require lots of cleaning chemicals to operate their businesses. Swimming and spa pool owners, whether residential pool owners or owners of fitness center pools, require the appropriate supplies for maintenance, such as chlorine and algaecide. Chemicals are also needed in many different industries to manufacture products, so industrial companies and plants also need a steady supply of chemicals, from dyes and pigments to additives and chemical reagents for research. Chemical wholesalers distribute chemicals of all kinds to the customer that need them. They sell in bulk at a cheap discount, offering savings for customers. Chemicals must be used with safety at all times. That’s why all chemicals should have warning labels on the side to indicate what active ingredients are contained in the box or bottle, along with storage and safety information, such as what to do in the case of accidental ingestion. Chemicals are hazardous toxic materials and must be treated with care. Proper waste disposal practices must be followed as well.
