Popular Terms Used by Coffee and Tea Wholesalers

Before purchasing coffee, tea, or related products from a wholesaler, you should spend some time making sure you understand the key terms that experts in this industry often use. The terms below will help you communicate more effectively with your supplier so that you get the tea leafs and coffee beans that have the best flavor.

  • Shade-grown Coffee - Coffee plants grow naturally in shady areas. Many modern growers, however, plant coffee in sunny areas. This allows the coffee berries to mature more quickly so they can ship beans to their distributors sooner. Shade-grown coffee, however, uses fewer pesticides and fertilizers. It's usually more expensive to brew a cup of shade-grown coffee, but many people think the flavor surpasses that of conventionally grown beans.
  • Coffee Roaster - Coffee beans develop inside berries. Once the berries are mature, farmers can harvest the beans. Someone has to roast the fresh beans, however, before they have an appealing taste. Gourmet and specialty roasters often produce a range of coffee beans that vary in darkness and intensity. The roaster might also espresso beans for a stronger beverage.
  • Oolong - Oolong is a type of tea that has been allowed to oxidize and wither in the sun before it is brewed. An oolong leaf usually looks drier and bruised compare to those used to make black and green teas.
  • Decaffeinated - Decaffeinated teas and coffees have less caffeine that standard types. They do, however, contain some caffeine. The typical coffee or tea drinker, however, can easily tolerate the small amount without any side effects.

Wholesale coffee and tea is in great demand all over the world. This is because so many people consume espresso drinks, hot chocolate, and herbal spice teas every day. It is very popular in the United States, but also in various other countries. More and more, new recipes for coffee brews, cocoa products, and unique flavored teas are coming out. Both commercial businesses and residential homeowners are utilizing equipment like espresso machines now. There is even ample coffee and tea brewing information found online at this point. Many wholesale coffee and tea distributors offer whole beans and leaves for brewing. They also sell various chocolate drinks, decaf coffee beverages, biscotti snacks, whole leaf teas, and gourmet flavored roasts. These professionals typically sell these specialty tea leaf and ground coffee products in bulk at cheap rates. While some are ideal for making a single cup or tea or coffee, others are best for brewing large pots. Coffee shops often acquire fresh roasted beans, green or black teas, spiced ciders, and other beverages from wholesalers. This is so they can make various drink recipes. Retailers also purchase products like sugar packets, artificial sweeteners, cream, honey, and ground cinnamon from wholesale distributors. Vanilla flavoring and cocoa powders may also be acquired. You can learn a lot about wholesale coffee and tea distributors online. There is also plenty of information on brewing equipment, espresso machines, chocolate cocoa drinks, and decaffeinated beverages as well. It all depends on the information you are after. You may also be able to get some information from a local coffee house or tea shop.
