There are several components to computers that are necessary for full functionality.   • Motherboard - The circuit board that connects all of the necessary components to operate your computer. The motherboard is essential to operate the equipment for your computer.

  • Software - This term refers to the intangible programs that run your computer. This includes any games, cd-burning programs and your operating system. Programs that you use to access the Internet or unzip files are also considered software.
  • Operating System - This is the software that is used to run your computer. The operating system is the piece of software that allows you to operate your computer applications. The most common operating systems are Windows and Mac OS.
  • Hard Drive - This is the part of your computer that stores all of the information. Hard drives can vary in size. External hard drives are available for purchase. This is a way for you to utilize additional memory. An external drive can be plugged into the USB slot on your laptop or desktop.
