Before Trouble Hits, Know Your Convyer Type

Heavy industries like mining, construction and excavating rely on conveyor belts to keep their operations running smoothly. Most workers don't think much about the belts and rollers that make up this equipment, unless it stops working. When the belt stops, so does the mining, distribution or whatever else the belt is used for. So before going into crisis mode, here are some conveyor belt terms and types every manager should know.

  • Ball Transfers – Traditional conveyors utilize belts or rollers and can only move materials in one direction. A ball transfer system uses multi-directional balls to facilitate handling in all directions. When viewed from above, these systems look like ball bearings.
  • Conveyor Pulleys – Term describes cylindrical assemblies upon which the actual belt sits. These items are usually made from metal composites or rubber.
  • Decline Conveyor – A system which relies on a sloped area for conveyance as opposed to machinery. Decline conveyors can be powered by machinery or gravity.
  • Gravity Conveyor – This type of equipment utilizes gravity to move objects on the belt rather than machinery. Gravity powered systems are usually utilized by distributors and shipping centers.
  • Live Roller Conveyor – Unlike a gravity powered system, a live roller only utilizes a few powered rollers to facilitate product handling and movement.
  • Skatewheel Conveyor – Rather than utilizing wide rubber pulleys, this type of system uses a series of rollers that resemble old fashioned roller skate wheels to move freight.
  • Sortation Conveyor – A conveyor system with dedicated off-shoots which allow for individual items to be directed to specific areas.

Conveyors and conveying equipment are used for many applications in warehouses and factory facilities. Conveyor belts, lines, and shaft equipment has been used heavily over the past century to manufacture and handle goods. Some common wholesale materials include bearings, power controls, roller wheels, and chains. It is typical to find conveyor belts and machinery in plants that manufacture food, as well as industrial goods. Distributors use conveying equipment in order to sort and box goods prior to shipping them. There are a number of aspects and functions of conveyor equipment First of all, most of these systems have control switches. This way the conveying unit can be turning on or shut down when necessary. Many of these belt, line, and shaft systems have electronic robots operating them. This ensures that the boxes, cases, and various other products move along the conveyor belt quickly and without interruption. These products are then organized and sealed by the machines. However, sometimes there are employees manually sealing and organizing goods. The kind of conveying equipment that is used depends on the types of goods a industrial or factory produces. You can learn more about wholesale conveyors, sealers, bearing supplies, and shaft equipment by surfing the Internet. This is a great way to compare rates, products, and services different conveyor and conveying equipment wholesalers offer. Some wholesale facilities may offer installation and delivery services. Most manufacturers, whether in the auto industry or toy industry, will need conveyor equipment to quickly and efficiently produce mass quantities of products.
