Terms to Know About Counseling Services

Counseling services are available to treat all different ages of people from children to adults to overcome mental health problems.   • Substance Abuse – There are counselors who specialize in assisting patients who are addicted to dangerous substances such as drugs, alcohol and more. Substance abuse is an unhealthy dependency on substances which alter the mind or body of the person consuming them.
  • Psychiatrist – A psychiatrist is a medically educated and trained professional who receives extra training in how to treat mental disorders. The doctor level of training and education is higher for a psychiatrist than that of a certified counselor.
  • Directive Counseling – In this form of counseling, the counselor directly assists their patients to make decisions and gives them advice on choices.
