Keyterm For Understanding Drafting Services

Architects are capable of planning stunning buildings, setting up complex parking structures, or creating an addition to a house. Before these professionals begin construction, they need to utilize drafting services. This not only allows the clients to view plans, but it allows the architect to make any adjustment necessary to the overall design. If you are dealing with drafting services, the following 5 terms may assist you.

  • Architect - This professional is trained in designing and planning buildings and other structures. Many have similar training to that of an engineer, in order to complete 3-D renderings of their schemes.
  • Technical Drawing - Another term for drafting services. This is the art of creating plans that will visually render the technical purpose of a building, as well as it's functions.
  • Drafter - The professional that actually completes the drawings. This may include the use of mechanical aids, computer software, and other tools. They can work with architects to create specific, scaled floor plans for a house or commercial building. May also include the use of DWG programs for complex designs.
  • DWG - This is a binary file format. It allows drafters to store multidimensional files, like floor plans or scaled drawings. DWG formatting is used in conjunction with several computer aided design applications.
  • CAD - This is an abbreviation used for computer aided design programs. These can be used to demonstrate both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional renderings. It is often used to replace mechanical tools that used to be necessary for drafting services.

Drafters provide the service of producing blueprints. Many of these are for architects, but mechanical blueprints are also important. Traditionally, a drafter would draw blueprints on a drawing board. These might consist of floor plans or an entire building. Mechanical drafting requires different details. The blueprints are then transformed into reality by the architect or engineer. In the modern world, CAD or computer aided design is generally used. This may be extended into CAM, where the computer then sends instructions to robots which create the machine or object sought. Most CAD software stores files in the DWG format. DWG is specially designed to hold 2-D and 3-D design data. One of the advantages of computers is the ability to work in three dimensions. Blueprints are created for both new buildings and renovated ones. Houses are, of course, common, but commercial buildings are also drawn. House construction may be to a custom design or to a set of standard blueprints that a developer uses over and over again, in which draughtsmen specialize. They might work for construction companies or civil engineers. In some cases, this work is outsourced, including offshore. This has become more common with computerization. They might also create simple floor plans for interior designers and even for wedding planners looking for the best arrangement of tables. Conversions also need to be carefully planned. It is cheaper to work through various designs on the drawing board, virtual or otherwise, than in brick and steel. Automobiles are another area in which drafting is used, although many cars are designed almost entirely by computer. Technical drawing is also used to produce designs that can be viewed and published. Drafting companies may also assist with project management.
