Many drilling companies specialize in oilfield, drilling in sensitive environments, construction projects and more. Drilling companies not only own and operate highly specialized equipment but also offer project management to ensure all goals are met smoothly when working with dangerous substances such as petroleum, oil and gas. Here are some terms to know if you are in need of a drilling service.

  • Hoisting – The hoisting mechanism consists of different parts of large drill including the large tower which is the most recognizable part of the rig. Pulleys are featured in the hoisting mechanisms to rise and lower the drills.

Drilling petroleum oil is a complicated, but ultimately lucrative industry. But few people know exactly how each drilling company obtains its oil and natural gas. To begin with, the company must first decide whether it wants to drill on land or offshore. If the company chooses to drill on land, it must construct an oil well. This oil well can be used to bore through the surface of the earth, ultimately extracting oil and gas. In order to determine where to begin construction on these wells, oil companies must first explore the area they hope to work on. If a field looks especially promising, they can then lay down a series of pipes. They use these pipes to transport oil from the reservoir to a refinery. Companies sometimes choose to construct horizontal, rather than vertical, wells to complete this process. These directional wells can maximize profits for industry executives. Companies also sometimes choose to use rotary drilling for the same reason. If the company chooses to drill offshore, it must first find water with a significant amount of oil underneath. Once the company has found a suitable location to drill, it can then construct a large platform rig, or barge. Precision equipment is needed to construct each of these rigs. For this reason, petroleum companies spend a considerable amount of money each year constructing the tools and machines necessary to complete these barges. Once the barge has been erected, the company can begin pumping fluid oil through it. The company can then send the oil to a refinery to be processed further.
