Eye Care

People who go into an eye care facility are usually doing so because they are having an irritating problem with their vision. Whether it is blurred vision, a twitching eye, or even a lazy eye, examination and treatment from an eye care professional will always help and these are some basic terms used when dealing with one.

  • Conjunctivitis – This eye infection, also known as pink eye, can be treated in a couple of different ways. It can either have a topical cream applied under the eyelid or eye drops can be used. The infection causes swelling, irritation, dryness, and other problematic symptoms.
  • Irritated Eye – This is usually caused by dryness and can be fixed with tear drops or special lubricant drops. There can be a multitude of causes, though, so be sure to visit a doctor if you experience this over a few days.
  • Contact Lenses – An alternative to glasses, contacts are discreet, eyeball sized lenses that are place over the center of your eye and produce the same result as glasses as they are also made to a specific prescription.
  • Prescription – This is determined by an ophthalmologist or qualified optometrist in order to identify the vision corrections that need to be made in the patient.
  • Optometrist – An optometrist is someone who performs basic eye exams and reports the results to the doctor who will treat you afterwards.
  • Lasik Surgery – An eye surgery using lasers that is supposed to correct the vision of the patient. While the operation is relatively safe, if the patient’s vision isn’t terrible, then they might not want to risk undergoing laser surgery.

Quality eye care is crucial to maintaining good eyesight. Optometrists, opticians, and ophthalmologists provide care for eyes within clinical or office settings. They can advise patients on the proper way to store and wear contacts, and other ways to take good care of their eyes. Such doctors and technicians can fit customers for glasses and lenses, prescribe drops, and perform surgery, depending on the type of professional. Eye doctors, or ophthalmologists, can typically perform surgery to correct vision problems, such as lazy eyes, cataracts, dry eyes, infections, and twitching ophthalmic muscles. Opticians are not doctors, but they can fit customers for glasses and perform simple exams. They may also sell a variety of eye care accessories within a store or center, including spectacles, contacts, prescription sunglasses. Consumers can find out more about treatments, exams, and laser eye surgery and what they entail by reading up on the topic at the library or online. Then, they can visit their local optometrist to learn even more. Optometrist offices can book appointments for patients, give referrals, and outline services by qualified doctors. Whether patients have an irritated infection involving chronic tearing that needs to be treated, or a second opinion on laser eye surgery, optometrists and ophthalmologists can help. Related specialties of eye care may include surgeons, neurologists, primary care physicians, and ear, nose and throat physicians. The eyes are related to so many other systems of the body, so several sub categories can contribute to this business. Because eye doctors and physicians are trained in everything to do with the eye and related systems, they can help patients achieve the level of eye care they require.
