Terms to Know If You Think You Need Eyeglasses

Nearly 75% of America’s adult population wear eyeglasses, contacts or have had some kind of corrective surgery for their vision. Because of this, there are many eye doctors and specialty eyeglass stores across the country. Here are some good terms to know when shopping for eyeglasses.

  • Eyeglass Lens – The lens is the glass piece which is designed to help a person’s eyes focus on an object. Lenses are created at different thicknesses to help different eyesight problems.
  • Frame – The frame of eyeglasses is the part that holds the lens in place. Many people who wear eyeglasses use different frames to achieve style as well as to have clear sight.
  • Contact Lens – A contact lens is a lens made from a soft material called polymethyl methacrylate which is placed in a person’s eye to help them to see better. Contact lenses can also be worn for cosmetic purposes so that a person can have a brighter or different eye color.
  • Optometrist – An optometrist is an eye doctor. Optometrists can test their patient’s vision give them a prescription for eyeglasses if necessary. Optometrists are trained to always consider their patient’s safety first and to write a prescription for the best eyeglasses for their patient.
  • Laser surgery - Corrective eye surgery using technology rather than a scaple. This is performed by trained surgeons who use a laser to get under a person’s cornea and remove corneal tissue. This helps both near and far-sighted patients to see more clearly and read without wearing eyeglasses or contacts.

Many people whose sight needs help when they are reading or looking at things near or far choose to wear eyeglasses. Optometrists and eyeglass stores can easily be found through an internet search.

Eyeglasses are needed by countless men, women, and children all over the world. After all, these framed lenses allow your to see better. Often an optometrist provides people with prescription eyeglasses that give them 20/20 vision or sight. There are also simple reading glasses that assist individuals who have difficulties with seeing words or objects up close. Contact lenses are also an option in this day and age. Many people choose these over eyeglasses, since they offer a little more freedom, and even come in various colors. When it comes to optical products like prescription glasses and shades, there are many options to consider. For instance, many people wear sunglasses when outdoors in order to protect their eyes from damaging UV rays. It is also an option to see a professional ophthalmologist or eye doctor to have corrective eye surgery done, which can improve your vision. In regards to sunglasses, many specialists recommend plastic or metal shades that reflect the sun with a protective lens coating. A pair of sunglasses will also assist you with eye safety since they prevent debris from blowing into your eyes. You can visit a local optometrist or eyeglasses shop in order to learn more about prescription reading glasses, affordable contact lenses, stylish frames, and rimless optometrist recommended glasses. There are so many different styles, colors, and brands available at this point. You can also contact a sunglasses store in order to make inquires pertaining to any specific products they offer.
