Facial Treatment Terms to Know

Facial treatments are a great way to care for your skin. They can improve acne, have fantastic cosmetic appeal, and are available in several different types. The process can involve waxing, cleansing, and other cosmetic procedures. When looking for a facial treatment, consider the following terms.

  • Microdermabrasion - Exfoliating the skin mechanically with a machine. This treatment can usually be done in about a day at a spa, and will help improve acne and overall skin health.
  • Exfoliating - Exfoliating removes the uppermost layer of dead skin. The benefits include reduction of acne, cleansing of the face, and overall skin benefits.
  • Chemical peel - The application of chemicals to the face which soak in. Later, the skin peels off, leaving a younger layer of skin underneath.
  • Acne - Acne is technically a skin condition which causes sores and lesions like pimples. It is incredibly common particularly in teenagers, but adults can be affected as well.
  • Wrinkle - As the skin ages, it will begin to crease and fold, creating wrinkles. These are common, and can be treated or removed with some chemicals though total removal is difficult. Some creams can help prevent wrinkles.
  • Wax - A procedure often done at spas that is used for hair removal. On the face, this is often used to shape eyebrows.
  • Facial mask - A combination of products applied to the face and allowed to sit for some time. Masks have hydrating abilities, and can come in the form of a cream or paste. Some can even be done at home.

Facials can clear your skin of oils and other impurities that can clog pores, giving you a fresh start. You can get simple of more complex facial treatments. Some facials incorporate exfoliating scrubs or even microdermabrasion, which removes a layer of dead skin cells. Some facials involve lots of massaging and refreshing lotions, with perhaps some eyebrow or facial waxing as well. Customize your facial treatment the next time you visit the day spa. Get a chemical peel, cleansing mask, toner application or laser hair removal on the upper lip. Got freckles or scars? Sit down with your facial technician and discuss ways of preventing and minimizing them. For example, staying out of the sun is one way to minimize the appearance of freckles. There are many products, like cleansing care creams, that are on the market that can reduce the look of all types of unsightly scars. Putting your best face forward is easy after a rejuvenating facial treatment at the beauty salon. Remove extra chin hairs, reduce wrinkles and try a hydrating mask. Many beauty salons will also expertly apply cosmetics and moisturizer for you for your next big night out. Many spas will treat skin conditions and offer referrals to local dermatologists for further skin treatments and procedures. For example, sometimes prescription medications are needed to rid the face of acne, which is a bothersome yet common skin disease marked by unsightly pimples. Acne can be devastating to a person, especially when it’s severe. From waxing to cosmetic application to creams, spas can help you with all your facial rejuvenation needs.
