What to Know Before Renting a Forklift
If you work in a warehouse, chances are you're familiar with forklifts. They're ideal for handling a heavy pallet of materials, including concrete, lumber, or bulk quantities of products. Often they are used in conjunction with a pallet jack to maneuver products down a narrow aisle of a store. If you need to rent a forklift for heavy equipment hauling, there are several definitions to keep in mind. The same goes if you're in the market for a forklift that's being offered for sale or if you need equipment repaired. Whether it's new or used, a forklift can be a huge help.
Forklift – If you break down this word, it is very self-explanatory. A mechanical fork is inserted into the bottom of a wooden pallet, enabling the operator to lift the pallet and materials which are on it.
Dealer – Equipment handling dealers are easy to find online, and can carry anything from a lift to a pallet jack. They may also offer forklifts for sale or rent, and may be able to repair equipment as well.
Aerial Lift – A machine that uses a fork to lift heavy materials high in the air to a designated location. Includes extending boom work platforms, articulating boom work platforms, and vertical towers. Aerial forklifts are widely available from dealers for sale or rent.
Telescopic Handler – This machine is often used in industry and farm settings. While it looks similar to a forklift, it operates more like a crane. A telescopic boom protrudes from the vehicle and can be outfitted with buckets, forks, and more.
Every construction site needs the right heavy-duty equipment to lift, haul, and transport materials. A forklift can be used on construction sites, as well as within warehouses, to lift and move bundles, crates, and boxes from one place to another. Featuring a pronged platform, forklifts transfer palletized loads that simply can’t be lifted by a human.
The advent of construction vehicles like loaders and forklifts made construction sites and warehouses work more efficiently. The first forklifts in this country were sold just before the dawn of the 1920s. In the 1950s, the country began to see more of a demand for forklifts in warehouses, which led to the creation of narrow aisle trucks.
Due to the need for material handling, manufacturing, and warehouse management applications, forklifts are efficient machines to have on hand. People can buy, rent, or lease them, which operate via hydraulics. If a homeowner is doing some light construction, he may want to simply rent a truck for a few days. But if a retailer is opening a new warehouse location that requires daily use of such a machine, a purchase is the wisest move. Forklifts sales and rentals dealers can help with this as well as repair.
Forklifts also act as stackers, which is a necessary task to achieve given the height of many warehouses. Manufacturers of forklifts such as telescopic may also rent and offer sales of aerial lifts, jacks, tools, and equipment. They may also offer repair of the equipment they sell, including boom lifts and concrete hoppers. Accessories may also be offered as well, such as stackable containers, aerial lifts, and replacement parts.
In order to certify the safety of a particular machine, it must be inspected regularly by inspectors to keep operators safe.
