Growing and Shipping Fruits and Veggies
It may seem like anyone can grow their own fruits and vegetables, but it takes a significant amount of skill to run a farm well enough to sell a decent product. Some farms specialize in one fruit or vegetable, while some grow a wider range of produce. Farmers have been growing produce in America since the country was first settled. The tools were primitive and the climate was harsh, but through trial and error the settlers were able to grow fresh food for their colonies. As time has progressed, farming has moved out of the garden and gone big scale with acres of raw product being shipped and delivered across the country. You can find an orange, cherry and apple variety at your local market. Pesticides have become safer and are still widely used, though the increasing interest in the environmental movement has brought a lot more organic options to the table. Dried fruit has also received an increase in popularity as it is seen to be a healthier alternative to fried or candy snacks. Some farms allow for people to come and pick their own produce instead of having it delivered for a reduced price. They either have to buy or supply their own baskets and pay after they pick fruits and vegetables from the rows of plants. This way, the customer can choose their greens and such at the height of freshness right off the tree that it came from. Prices depend on what is picked since it's difficult to charge by the berry, tomato or pear, but not by the squash or carrot. More exotic fruits, like kiwi, are more likely to be shipped and imported to grocery stores, rather than being found on a farm.

If you do not live in an area with regular farmers markets, then consider contacting a grower and shipper. Receive fresh crates of organic tomato and baskets of kiwis through reliable growers. Local farm-grown vegetables such as squash and carrot are fresher than ones shipped from farther distances. However, if you are a supermarket, you may want apples with a more uniform shape. Fruits and vegetables growers ship out of season vegetables to retailer grocers and restaurants. Though seasonal, local fruit may be cheaper, your customers may want cherries and pears right now. This means businesses may need to find suppliers that obtain fruits from other parts of the country with more hospitable climates. Find orchards and farms that grow the pesticide-free vegetables you want. Select the fruit and vegetables suppliers with a solid reputation. Choose the suppliers that have the fewest online customer complaints. Find an online directory of well-rated growers and shippers. Then call to ask about size of orders required and what credits you’ll receive if produce arrives damaged. When your questions are answered, decide if you trust the company. Then place your first order.
