It is also very common for individuals to plan out their funerals long before they die. If a loved one requests to be embalmed or cremated, then a funeral director makes arrangements to fulfill those wishes. Funerals of veterans have their own traditions, often handled by specialty companies. This is particularly true when burial in a national cemetery is authorized.
