Gasoline service stations.
Gas stations exist primarily as places to refuel cars and trucks. Most sell diesel as well as petrol and also have facilities for changing oil and filling tires. Almost all gas stations have small convenience stores attached to them. They sell snack food, drinks, and often alcohol and tobacco. Travelers may also be able to buy maps and local souvenirs. Some gas stations are attached to fast food outlets or even sit down restaurants. Gas stations tend to be located close to freeways at major intersections. It is not uncommon for a major freeway interchange to have several stations located at it, which often pushes the prices of fuel down. Pumps are generally located under a canopy, although diesel pumps may be outdoors to allow space for trucks, rather than building a higher canopy. Most gas stations are self service, which helps keep fuel cheap. In some areas full service is common. New Jersey requires that all gas stations be full service as a measure to preserve jobs. Sales are generally made at the pump using a credit card reader attached to it. Some older gas stations still require that the motorist pay at the retail store. Almost all gas stations are franchises attached to a major oil company. They act as middlemen between the diesel and petrol supplier and automobile drivers. Gas stations may also be part of a full service auto shop with mechanics and their equipment on site. This is more common in small towns. In some cases they may also be involved in the retail sale of new and used vehicles. A few gas stations may also have the equipment to fill natural gas tanks, such as are used on some buses and commercial vehicles.

Service stations provide a variety of comprehensive automotive services. These stations provide general service, repair and refueling services for cars, truck, vans and other automobiles. Service stations that sell gasoline and oil are generally referred to as gas or filling stations. They may also charge a fee for providing comprehensive automotive inspection services. Service stations, to stay in business, must qualify for the state safety standards. They must also adhere to certain requirements, including automotive inspections and emissions testing. They will then give your car a sticker that certifies that is has been properly inspected by professionals. Do some research to find a gasoline station that has affordable gas prices and comprehensive motor vehicle repairing services. Online or in a phonebook can be a useful resource for finding gas and service stations in your area. Service stations can be independent repair shops or large chains and franchises. Gas service centers specialize in offering automotive repairs, motor vehicle inspections and testing. These inspections and evaluations are sometime required for insurance purposes. These service stations may also offer customers other services, including body work on old cars, oil and lube changes. Do some research and you can find businesses that offer equipment tune-ups, smog check, air conditioning repairs and affordable oil and diesel. It is always smart to ask people that you know for recommendations on service stations they trust for refueling and automotive other needs. It is always important to know that you should never smoke a cigarette around a gas and service station. Not smoking around a station will reduce the risk of a fire and also reduce the risk of injury for you and other patrons. Make sure the station will take your credit card. You should always do some research to find the most affordable prices for the services, equipment or products you are looking to invest in.
