Retail Golf Equipment and Supply Terms

For golfers, balls, gloves, clubs, and carts are all a part of a day on the course. Many golfers even go to extra lengths to have custom clubs, bags, and other accessories made to improve their golf game. Although retail sporting goods stores do offer a broad selection of golf equipment and supplies, there are many online dealers as well to consider. Some popular golfing terms and definitions are listed below to assist you.

  • Divot – This is a small piece of turf, and it is removed by a golf club when the ball is hit. However, these divots need to be replaced, typically by the players, and this is part of common golfing etiquette.
  • Driver – Also known as the longest golf club in your bag or set. The driver is used to hit a ball great distances, and will hit farther than any of the other clubs due to its size and weight.
  • Flagstick – This is a flagged pole that is used to mark the position of a hole. This way golfers can see where to drive a ball. A flagstick typically rests inside a cup, and can be found all over the green or course.
  • Golf GPS – A handheld, electronic device that assists golfers. This global positioning system helps golfers navigate the course correctly on foot or in a cart, and without getting confused about their position. Various navigational equipment and supplies can easily be found at sporting goods stores.
  • Interlocking Grip – This is a type of grip used when holding a golf club. The index finger of one hand is interlocked with the pinky finger of the opposite hand. This provides a solid grip on the club and can be done with gloves on.

Before you get out there and practice your golf swing on the course or driving range, you’ll need the proper equipment and supplies. You can buy things like clubs, bags, balls, carts, and gloves at retail golf equipment and supplies stores. They can take the form of specialty golf shops, or they can be integrated within a sporting goods store that sells all manner of sporting equipment and supplies. Pro shops at golf courses also sell retail golf goods such as apparel, shoes, covers, sports accessories, and sun glasses necessary for the sport. Golf, a leisure sport that takes place on a large grassy outdoor course, can be a solitary sport or a team one. It involves either nine or 18 holes. Some courses are private, requiring membership in order to play, while others are public and welcome anyone through their doors. It can be competitive in nature, such as during a tournament for amateurs or pros, or it can simply be a way to relax with your buddies on a mild spring day. From travel bags and carts to clubs like drivers and wedges, golfers need the right supplies in order to play. Many golf courses offer rentals, but if you play often enough, it’s wise to purchase your own equipment from a retailer. Check out online sites, visit a sporting goods store, or try a specialty shop near you. Many golf stores also offer instructions and lessons, in addition to sales of hats, travel bags, head covers, clothing, and shoes. Price varies by brand, and can range from cheap to extremely expensive. No matter which supply item you need, whether something as small as replacement putters or as large as carts, you can find what you need at a golf equipment and supplies retail dealer.
