When you decide you would like to go to a firing range, you may wish to find a local spot to practice. You can find a clay pigeon gun range or a general spot. You should stop at a sporting goods shop to buy supplies. This may include a gun, ammunition or protective glasses. The following are key terms relating to shooting and gun ranges before you go to the sporting goods store.
Aperture Sights - A type of a sight that is included on standard .22 rifles. This is where you look to help you aim the shot in target shooting.
Bull - A term referring to the center of the target. This term applies to target shooting that has a point value for being closest to the center. This does not apply to clay pigeon firing.
Bull Barrel - This is a gun or rifle that has an extra thick barrel. The barrel minimizes recoil and protects the shooter in the process.
Butt - The rear part of the firearm. On a rifle, this is the part that you rest against your shoulder.
Chamber - This is the part of the gun in which the chamber is loaded.
Dominant Eye and Hand - The stronger eye and hand of the shooter. 15% of the population has a dominant hand that is opposite of the dominant eye. This can be difficult for rifles or longer firearms.
Eye Relief - The distance that you keep your eye away from the lens. You want to stay at least two to four inches away for safety purposes. This protects injury that may result from recoil.

People need a safe place to practice firing their guns. These places are called firing or gun ranges. Police officers and other law enforcement personnel often frequent these gun ranges, but they may also be open to the public as well. With a valid firearms license, a person may take part in the services of a gun range to practice shooting long distances.
Shooters, of course, must wear proper safety gear such as goggles, bullet proof vests, and noise muffling ear phones. Instructors can show them how to aim and shoot a variety of guns, from pistols to rifles to shotguns. Such a recreation facility may feature both an indoor and outdoor range, allowing for different perspectives for rounds of practice shots.
What will one find at a gun range? Usually, these ranges feature booths, paper targets, flags, and of course, the firearms themselves along with ammunition. Civilians can rent a firearm such as rifle or shot gun if they don't own their own. Gun ranges may offer a sports shop on site where civilians and law enforcement personnel alike can buy pistols and bullets.
Some gun ranges specialize in one or two types of ranges, such as 24 point pistol ranges or 11 point indoor airgun ranges. Many feature clubhouses, shops, and recreational areas. Information on the latest gun laws and permits should be posted here as well. Some city or town police departments have their own private gun ranges for their officers to train at targets. Other sports facilities are public, offering more of a clubhouse atmosphere.
