General Hauling Terms

The term hauling refers to the process of moving or transporting general objects from one place to another. Hauling is used in both residential and commercial settings. The objects transported can be almost anything and are shipped by land, air or water.

A moving service is used by some people who will rent a truck to haul furniture to a new home, others will have items transported by a professional company. Some hauling companies may pickup and collect trash, garbage and other refuse. At a construction or demolition site, scraps, garbage and debris will need to be moved and hauled to a landfill or junk yard. Those who work at chemical plants must manage waste and ensure that it is hauled away and disposed of properly. The following are various general hauling terms.

  • Construction Hauling - Because a construction site has a lot of debris like rock, gravel and wood, a hauling service in needed. Dump trucks, cranes and various other construction equipment is used to move building materials like gravel, framing products, concrete and landscaping materials. Trash collection services are often needed at construction site to haul refuse to landfills.
  • Freight - Freight is defined as the goods that are transported between locations. These goods are carried by a vessel, courier service, messenger or vehicle.
  • Logistics - Logistics involves the planning and managing of the transportation of goods from one place another.
  • Courier - A courier is someone who is responsible for the exchange of items between two parties. They may need to transport packages, important documents, mail or other important items to various clients. With the concern for a more ecologically conscious climate, the removal and proper disposal of garbage is not only a popular idea, it's the law. Almost all United States municipalities have ordinances that regulate where and how trash can be hauled. Some local governments provide for trash removal, while others have their citizens serviced through a commercial company. Not only is residential garbage an issue for cities and their citizens, heavy waste products need to be hauled away as well. Dump trucks are needed to pick up large scraps and junk items such as discarded furniture and appliances. Sometimes this service is included in regular rubbish removal services. In other cases, consumers broker the services of couriers who specialize in the removal of heavy items. These businesses have fleets of equipment to haul away cargo. They determine the logistics of pick up services and remove waste freight from your property. They may use flatbed trucks or roll-offs to carry discarded material to the appropriate land fill or recycling center. Consumers may also choose rental services and manage the removal and relocation of their items on their own. This option is often cheaper but more labor intensive. The distribution of large waste can be more or less problematic depending on where you live. Larger cities may have landfills and centers that are less convenient to access. More rural areas may have express service due to lower population and less area to cover. Research into the types of services available in your area will show you the options you have when you need to get rid of a pile of no longer useful and junk materials.
