Important Terms about Health Clubs

Many people who want to improve their physical fitness decide to join a health club. A typical club sports a wide range of equipment, including weights and treadmills, to help members achieve their goals. Its practitioners often credit it with relieving stress and increasing physical flexibility, among other benefits. Although yoga traditionally has a religious aspect, classes taught in gyms generally emphasize its physical health benefits.
  • Aerobics – A type of workout routine that promotes strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. This is done though a wide variety of sustained athletic exercises, often including but not restricted to jogging, swimming, and cycling.
  • Free weights – Weights, such as dumbbells and barbells, that are not attached to a weightlifting apparatus. They differ from weight machines in allowing a greater range of movement.

The spa might offer various services such as massage therapy, hot stone massage, saunas and whirlpools.
