Home Automation System Terminology

Home automation applies to a variety of technological features. Homeowners use security automation systems to protect their family and possessions via a burglar alarm. Navigating a house at night can be made easier with automatic lighting systems. Regardless of the intent behind home automation, there are some terms associated with these systems.

  • Closed Circuit Television – A closed circuit television, or CCTV, can be used in home surveillance systems. The image captured by the camera can be recorded. This type of security system is only really effective if the video footage is consistently monitored.
  • Control Panel – The control panel manages an entire home automation system. From this equipment, system specifications can be added, altered, or eliminated.
  • Door and Window Contact – These security devices are especially popular in residential buildings. When a window or door is opened, an alarm is activated.
  • Gateway – A gateway is a home automation system’s access to the internet. Gateways can allow people to control their systems wireless, and they also permit communication between different automated components of the house.
  • Infrared – Infrared light is not visible to people. This technology can be used to help secure a residential or commercial location. For example, an infrared sensor could be installed in a bank to alert the police of any nighttime activity.
  • Macro – A macro is a single command that has been programmed to trigger multiple commands simultaneously. A macro could control all of the lights in a house. In home automation, this control capability can also be referred to as a scene.

Home automation systems can refer to various types of items that you might want to install in your home. For instance, you could install technology in your house that includes a wireless security system that automatically contacts the police when burglars try to enter your home. An automated system, however, could also refer to technology that turns off lights, reduces the house’s temperature to conserve energy, and locks all of the doors at night. Regardless of what types of products you want to install in your home, you will need to find a store that sells all of the monitors, wireless connections, alarms, video cameras, and auto accessory items that you need. You can start your search by contacting home supply stores in your area. Some of them might have reasonably priced surveillance equipment that you can use to secure your home. You should also consider contacting stores that sell spy equipment. These retailers often have automatic alarms that include wireless monitors, cameras, motion sensors for windows, and infrared sensors. Find out whether they have a centralized system that lets you control all of the automatic systems in your house from one location. This will help you maintain control over the residential systems networked to each other. Be sure to explore internet retailers for audio equipment, residential security cameras, and motion sensors. These outlets often have low prices on cutting edge devices. That way you can secure your home with automated systems without spending a lot of money. You might also want to consider installing the systems on your own to save installation costs.
