Common Home Health and Health Care Equipment Terms

Staying at a hospital long term can be expensive for a patient and doesn't provide the comfort of sleeping in their own own bed. When someone is living with a medical condition that prevents them from getting around or completing daily tasks, a nurse or aid may assist a patient at home.

  • Mobility Medical Equipment - This equipment, like shower chairs, stair lifts, and grab bars, is used to help individuals get from room to room, and some may be permanent fixtures around a home. These pieces of equipment include walkers, hospital beds and wheelchairs.
  • Occupational Therapy - Occupational therapy is a medical treatment that involves assisting someone into returning to his or her regular activities after an illness.
  • Oxygen Tank - An oxygen tank provides a patient with supplemental oxygen at home. Tanks are needed by individuals living with lung or heart issues.
  • Home Health Aid Services - Home health aid service refers to assistants who help patients their daily activities and routines. These activities include bathing, dressing, waking up and making meals.
  • Live-in Service - Live-in service is when a medical professional provides around the clock health care. If a patient is living alone or the primary caregiver is away, live-in service may be necessary.
  • Intermittent Care - Intermittent care is when a nurse or home health aid comes in at certain times during the week. Duties may include managing pain, filling oxygen tanks or replacing bandages.
  • Hospice - Hospice is a medical program for terminally ill patients who need end-of-life care. This service doesn't try to cure the illness, but provide counseling and support services.

Home health care equipment is needed by countless individuals across the country. Fortunately there are a number of medical supply companies that offer these products to assisted living facilities, senior citizen homes, and various individuals that need them. Nurses and doctors use health care equipment every day in their field. Some of these products and supplies help people with meal preparation, taking medications, doing laundry, running errands, shopping and even basic housekeeping. Caregivers across the United States utilize health care equipment daily. There are a number of licensed nurses, caregivers, and specialists that aid people with domiciliary care, or home-based health care. These experts use all kinds of equipment to assist disabled individuals, provide them with transportation, and any other aid they may need. Often this kind of medical assistance can be acquired through an agency or company. However, the type of care covered may depend on a life insurance or health coverage policy in place. After all, not all provider plans or programs cover the same type of health care. While nurses that work in this field offer care to senior citizens and disabled people, they additionally provide some companionship. Different patients require different home health care equipment and assisted living products. Try surfing the web in order to learn more about home health care equipment and the companies that supply these products. You can gather plenty of facts and specifics on the web in little time. It often helps to focus on a specific type of equipment or product you are interested in.
