Terms Relating to Human Service Organizations

The government runs the Department of Health and Human Services. The Department of Health and Human Services offers assistance to those in need. This federal organization provides assistance, education, and other forms of aid to countless individuals each year. Help provided from the Department of Health and Human Services can range from food stamps to personal social workers. There are also nonprofit organizations and programs that are aimed at aiding a particular community. The following are some basic terms relating to human services organizations.

  • Assessment – The finding of a human service organization as to whether or not an individual or group requires assistance.
  • Case Management – These services are provided to individuals and families that require assistance. Case management services typically include instances of suspected or proven child neglect or abuse.
  • Court-appointed Representative – This is an attorney, social worker, or other professional who has been assigned to a particular individual or family. This person will make suggestions based on the best interest of the represented individual or family.
  • Housing Services – Housing organizations help adults and families find or keep a home, apartment, or other dwelling. These are generally for low income families.
  • Investigation Disposition – A determination by an agency that the reported problem is unfounded. An investigation disposition often applies to unproven reports of child neglect or abuse. A non-substantiated finding of an investigation disposition reports of a problem, typically child abuse or neglect, that is found to be untrue. It also determines that a supposed victim is, in fact, not at risk of being neglected or abused.

Human services organizations provide assistance for those with health problems, are unemployed, and need to pay for education and food. There are social workers that are advocates for the young and old to ensure they are being treated fairly at a case in court. They help counsel individuals and get them the help they need. Human service organizations help people get access to medical treatment, money, and support needed to increase their quality of life. To find an agency that provides a certain type of assistance, it's best to look online or in a phone book. More likely than not, it is required to visit the organization in person and fill out paperwork to begin receiving any form of assistance. Filing for unemployment, disability benefits, and welfare allows people to help pay their bills when they are not able to work. Each community has its own human service organization. Some may be only available locally, while others are a branch of a federal organization. A community may have different types of therapy available for those in need. Many have a safe location for the elderly to visit to get them out of their home and mingle with their peers in a group setting. Social workers care about the people they are trying to help. If anyone has questions regarding welfare, unemployment or disability benefits, professional development classes, or group therapy sessions for people with an addiction, a social worker is available to help answer questions and find everyone the help they need. If anyone is in trouble and needs help, it's best to look at local human service organizations to find one that helps them.
