Almost everyone has their favorite pair of jeans. While the style and cut of jeans may change over the years, from blue bell bottom jeans to skinny jeans and even into jean leggings, jeans are an item that will always be functional and fashionable. Jeans are sold in clothing stores, fashion stores and even in outlet stores. Below are some common terms associated with jeans.
Denim – Jeans are made out of denim, which is a very thick and sturdy material. Denim is actually made out of cotton twill, and while denim is normally blue, many styles of pants feature dyed denim in colors of black and white.
Antique Wash – Denim that has been treated to appear old or worn. The center of the pants will include faded patches and some styles even include tears in the fabric.

Skinny Jeans – A style of jeans that is more form fitting than the boot cut. It is tapered and tighter around the legs, ankles, hips and thighs. Skinny jeans often sit low on the waist, around the hips.
Jeggings – A clothing term made that combines jeans and leggings into one. These are often made of out spandex or very stretchable denim. They are even more form fitting that skinny jeans and are meant to look like denim leggings. Jeggings are more comfortable and causal than denim jeans and feature fake pockets and buttons.
Blue jeans are pants fashioned from denim, a fabric originating in Renaissance Italy. American blue jeans, first manufactured by Levi Strauss in California in the 1850s, have become a fashion statement of casual style. Originally they were worn as work clothes, and after being accepted as everyday casual wear, they are now worn by men and women alike.
Jeans are available in many different styles and cuts. Some popular styles and cuts include low or high rise, relaxed fit and skinny jeans. Skinny jeans are a popular fashion trend, where the legs of the jeans fit snugly on the leg, similar in cut to a legging or another pair of tight pants. On the other end of the spectrum can be found relaxed fit jeans, which provide extra room through the hip and leg. Boot cut jeans are tighter at the waist and hip and flare slightly and the calf and ankle, providing more ventilation.
In addition to pants, other clothing forms of jeans can be seen. For women, denim fabric is used to make jeans skirts, which can be long or short. Shorts are also available from many different brands, in cuts suitable for men or women.
In addition to clothing, denim is used to create other kinds of apparel and accessories, from hats to belts and handbags. Denim itself is manufactured in different styles and textures. It often undergoes an aging process to make new jeans, shorts, pants and skirts look used or vintage.
Whatever your size, style or budget, a pair of jeans is available to meet your needs. Used clothing stores and outlet retailers offer new and vintage clothing at a cheaper discount, while high end retailers and designers sell high priced, customizable products.
