Counselors Licensed
When people are facing a tough time working out their issues, they may consult a licensed counselor for additional help and assistance. Licensed by the state, these counselors can help treat depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addiction, and stress through confidential sessions. They generally can’t prescribe medication, as a psychiatrist can. However, they can lend an ear, giving support and advice on matters pertaining to family disputes, marriage problems, abuse, and school pressures. Other services may also include evaluations, outpatient care, stabilization services, responsive psychology services, and case management. For those going through a crisis, whether they need couples therapy or other types of help, they can turn to licensed counselors. Such counselors may also own their own practice, within schools, or within government agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services or Welfare Department. Some of the work is strictly related with youth, while others treat a wide range of patients, from young to old. Some treatments are offered in a clinical setting, while others are constantly on the road in a social work capacity, visiting clients in their homes. Licensed counselors are trained in mental health care and usually have degrees in psychology. They can provide help through therapy sessions geared towards specific problems. Some counselors specialize in Christian couples therapy, for example. Others focus more on childhood mental health issues. Still others are marital and family therapists (MFTs). People in need of such help can get referrals from their primary care doctor’s office. Counseling can get expensive, especially with regular therapy sessions. Counseling is usually covered by health insurance.

Licensed counselors have been able to help people with a variety of personal issues. These professionals have undergone training that helps them make evaluations and determine treatment options for those who have suffered abuse, depression, low self-esteem, substance abuse, drug dependency, relationship problems and divorces, difficulties with careers, and psychiatric or mental problems. When you contact the professional counselors, ask them how many years they have been in business. Those with several years of experience should be able to help those with personal emotional issues like family abuse, self-esteem, problems with authority, assertiveness, and depression. Professional counselors should be able to use evaluations to determine a treatment plan on a case by case basis to help you get the care and support that you need. Ask the counselors if they work with people of certain ages to determine if they can fill your needs. You should also ask if they counsel on an outpatient or inpatient basis. If you want help with emotional issues, social phobias, personal growth, and relating to your peers without staying at a hospital unit, then be sure that the counselor has outpatient services. Ask the counselors what sorts of treatments will help you reach stabilization. Getting help with these personal issues can be difficult for you emotionally, but professionals will help you get through the treatment so that you can learn new coping skills. If you have insurance, then you should ask the counselors if they take the kind that you have. If you do not have insurance, then you might want to find a counselor that charges on a sliding scale.
