Wholesale Liquor Terms to Know

Liquor is an intoxicating distilled beverage that includes a higher amount of alcohol than beer or wine. Liquor is often sold by wholesale distributors in stores where customers can buy an entire bottle instead of just a drink or two that they would buy at a bar. Liquor stores often also sell varieties of beer and wines that are not found in other retail stores, such as microbrews. Below are some common terms often associated with wholesale liquor distributors, including the different types of liquor sold.

  • Brandy - A type of liquor that is made by distilling wine. The alcohol content in brandy varies from thirty to sixty percent. It is often considered a desert liquor and drank after consuming a meal.
  • Gin - A type of liquor made by distilling alcoholic grains and juniper berries. The alcohol content in gin varies widely, from thirty to ninety-six percent. Ninety-six percent is considered the upper limit for liquor, as it cannot be distilled any higher.
  • Vodka - A distilled beverage made by grains and potatoes. It is traditionally made in Russia and while there are cheap domestic versions of vodka many stores may also sell direct imports. It usually has forty percent alcohol content.
  • Tequila - A distilled beverage made from the blue agave plant. It is a traditional drink of Mexico. It's alcohol content varies from thirty to fifty percent.
  • Whiskey - Liquor that is made from barely, wheat and corn, as well as other grains. It is traditionally aged in wooden casks. In the United States, moonshine whiskey was often available during Prohibition and although it is outlawed today, it is still often made in many rural areas. However, moonshine is not for sale at retail stores.

Wholesale liquor is sold all over the world, and is commonly purchased by retailers and smaller distributors across America. This kind of alcohol comes in various forms, and often includes red wine, beer, as well as vodka of different brands. Regardless of the town or city you reside in, there is likely to be an alcohol or liquor dealer close by. Typically these retail stores will provide bar supplies such as tequila, single malt whiskey, discount cocktail mixer tools, imported scotch, and even champagne. There are various types of wholesale liquor that can be acquired for grocery stores, bars, retail shops, and other distributors. While one liquor store may need to purchase several cases of gin and rum, another shop may need to order a large supply of bourbon and brandy at a discount rate. Major liquor wholesalers sell imported and domestic alcohol at cheaper prices so that it can be obtained in bulk for less. This is essentially why smaller distributors across the United States deal with these wholesale businesses. They have affordable packages for their vodka, wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages. You may be able to learn more about liquor beverages, wine and beer distributors by speaking with a local retail store that offers liquor products. These professionals can probably tell you more about common wholesale rates and discount prices on bulk alcohol and bar supplies. Consider the type of bourbon, vodka, gin or scotch you are interested in. This way you can make specific inquiries pertaining to this liquor.
