Important Automotive Lubrication Service Terms

One of the most important aspects of owning a car or truck is regular oil changes. If this is neglected, you may have to start looking for a new vehicle. Lube shops can provide this service for you. Here are some important terms that you need to be familiar with when using the services of these shops.

  • Synthetic – This is a lubricant that is made by chemically reacting materials. This produces a liquid that replicates the properties and composition of naturally derived lubricants.
  • Ash-Sulfated – This is the amount of ash content present in the oil. Ash content is determined by charring it, treating it with sulfuric acid, and evaporating it to dryness.
  • Crude – This is naturally occurring petroleum that hasn’t been refined or treated. Once processed, this material makes motor oil, fuel, plastics and a multitude of other items.
  • Detergent – This is added to lubrication fluids to keep engine parts free of accumulated dirt, soot and debris. The most common detergent is metallic soap that is basic in nature. This neutralizes any acids that may be formed during combustion.
  • Engine Deposits – This is an accumulation of sludge and residue from contamination, partially burned fuel, breakdown of lubricating materials or water condensation.
  • Silicone – This is a lubricant made of inert synthetic materials. This is usually silicon typically bonded with hydrogen and oxygen. Silicone grease is used to lubricate various automotive parts, such as axle bearings, seals, and brake calipers.
  • Repacking Bearings - This is the process of adding additional grease to the front auto wheel bearings. It provides additional lubrication to the wheels, creating a smooth, even movement.

Many auto shops will provide lube services for engines, bearings, and chains. They can also provide repairs or replacement parts for valves or clutches that are not working properly. Synthetic or turbine motor oil can be used depending on the type of car and your preference. The performance of your car can be greatly changed by getting any dry gears properly oiled. Regular tune ups are needed so your car can last as long as you need it to. Shops will have the necessary equipment needed for maintenance of different vehicle models. Engine grease, oil filters, and pumps are all a part of a car's system. Industrial mobile oil can be found at every place that provides tune up services for automobiles. Lubricants will cost differently depending on the brand you choose. You can buy the lube yourself and work with your motor vehicle or take it to a local shop that will do the work for you. Find automotive lubrication services by looking online or in a phone book. Some may work with industrial systems while others will work with a wider range of vehicles. Before taking your car to them you can ask how much they will charge for this service. Call several other choices you have and get a price so you can see where you get the best price. Some places may ask you to make an appointment while others will let you come whenever you want and leave your car to be serviced. This is a better choice for those that want to take the car in when it suits them best instead of a scheduled time.
