Important Contractor Terms

Hiring a contractor to install new stone for a project is sometimes needed. Qualified contractors can install counters and other things made of marble, granite, limestone, or many other stones. Here are some important contractor terms.

  • Tile - If needed, a contractor can remodel a kitchen or bathroom with chosen stone tile. They lay the tiles in certain patterns or shapes and secure them with grout.
  • Slab - In dealing with marble, granite, limestone, and other stones a contractor may have a large slab of the preferred stone. They can cut the slab to fit the surface of whatever renovation they are handling.
  • Faux - Some residential projects may not require authentic and natural products for the right design. Faux products can give a similar look without the larger price tag.
  • Grout - When dealing with tile a contractor will need to secure the different pieces. Grout will act as a bonding agent that also can be used in different colors to give different looks.
  • Cultured - Different stones can be treated in different matters to achieve a desired look or consistency. Marble, granite, limestone, slate, and other types give different looks when doing so.

When hiring someone to construct and build a new project like a new floor or counter, the materials they use can have an impact on the overall job. Going through commercial companies can give a wide array of choices and options in the stones and other important materials used when renovating or remodeling a home or business for a new look or branding opportunity.

Cultured marble resists stains, germs and damage. In addition, this natural material comes in a variety of colors. Pure stone doesn't resist stains as easily, but it looks great. The difference between cultured and natural stone involves the construction process it went through. Cultured stone is ground up, mixed with a resin and then shaped into slabs. The addition of the resin lowers the price. Pure rock is cut into slabs straight from the quarry. It's more expensive, but it looks better. If you need affordable alternatives, tiles are easier to install. Plus, with a wet saw and grout, you can lay tile squares by yourself. Limestone and slate are other possibilities. Faux surfaces are a cheap material for commercial and residential properties. Compare materials and prices before remodeling your kitchen or bathroom counter surface. Different building materials come with specific cleaning instructions. There are benefits and downfalls to many products. Granite flooring and slabs can release radon into your home. Not every source is high in radon. If you're considering this material, ask the dealer if they've tested their source. This ensures that radon isn't present. Choosing a qualified contractor is equally important. Don't go with the first person you find. Ask for at least three estimates. Ask for referrals from all contractors. Be sure to call those homeowners. Ask to see photos of the finished work. Once you've made your choice, get a written estimate. Make sure the estimate covers every step of the project. This keeps unexpected expenses from appearing after the renovation's completion. Properly installed counter tops and floors look great and add value to your home. Follow recommended cleaning and care recommendations and as a result, the residential surface will look new for decades. Get great end results by carefully choosing your marble or granite contractor.
