Important Marine Terminology

There are countless parts, equipment, and supplies associated with marine travel. Electronics and other accessories are popularly used on many marine vessels.   • Dinghy – Dinghies are small boats. Dinghies are important supplies for yachts and other large vessels because they can easily ferry passengers to shore.
  • Fender – A fender is a cushion that helps protect a boat from damage that could be caused by contact with another vessel or a mooring structure, like a dock or pier.
  • Ground Tackle – Ground tackle refers to an anchor and all equipment related to anchoring a vessel.
  • Rigging – Rigging is a collective term for all of the lines on a boat.
