Important Meditation Instruction Terms

Meditation means many things to different people, and this practice is the cultivation of mindfulness in order to become more fulfilled in everyday life. For some, meditation involves sitting quietly, while others may chant in unity. Meditation is also used in yoga as a way to relax after a long, stressful day. In order to focus on one's spirituality, someone may meditate to reflect on his or her life and decision making. Individuals have the option of taking a class or attending a retreat that specializes in meditation instruction. A retreat will offer individuals a chance to spend a period of days or weeks incorporating meditation into their life.

  • Holistic - Holistic is a term used to target the entire person, including their body, mind and spirituality. Holistic medicine focuses on both the physical, spiritual, mental and emotional health of a person.
  • Lotus Position - Lotus position is a cross legged, sitting posture. This relaxing position is often used during meditation instruction.
  • Zen - Zen is a way to reach enlightenment through meditation, self contemplation and reflection.
  • Active Meditation - Active meditation is a technique that begins with an intense physical activity and is followed by a period of silence.
  • Mindfulness - Mindfulness is the ability to have a non-judgmental observation of a situation.
  • Swarma Yoga - Swarma yoga is a type of meditation that focuses on alternating breath. Individuals analyze the rhythms of the way they breathe over a period of time.
  • Aura - Aura is the energy field that surrounds living things. It is described to have colors that depend on the persons mood or state of mind.

    Meditation is a technique that brings about deep relaxation and awareness by focusing the attention on beads, yoga positions, mental images, chants, or acoustics. There are many techniques that are useful for medication. Depending on where you live, you can probably find many medication instruction classes that can give you lessons on how to use different techniques like yoga, group sitting meditation, and tai chi. Some people feel that it is difficult for them to choose an instruction class because there are so many options to choose from. By following these guidelines, though, you should be able to find the lessons that will teach you a holistic deep relaxation technique that is right for you. When you first contact the meditation instruction classes, ask them what techniques they use. Meditation is deeply rooted in Islam, Christian, Buddhism, Hindu, Taoism, Judaism, New Age, and even many secular cultures, so you certainly have a wide range of options to choose from. Ask the teachers if they have yoga and tai chi classes that involve the body and can be treatment for stress and some medical conditions. If you prefer sitting meditation, ask the teachers if they have techniques that can help you bring stillness to your mind and help you focus your attention better. While it is important for you to get the lessons that you need, you should also consider price. Ask the teachers how much they charge for their sessions and if they have discounts monthly member rates that can help you save some money.
