Organizing a big event such as a marriage ceremony or business convention can be rewarding but also time-consuming. There are many professionals available that can meet your needs and assist with necessary things like locating a venue, hiring a caterer, or organizing a reception. Below are a few terms to be familiar with when looking for a service provider.
Wedding Planner — This job can include everything from helping prepare the invitation list and plan the theme, to hiring the DJ.
Caterer — Someone hired to prepare and serve food and drinks to guests or attendees. Caterers can be hired for a wedding or a business conference.
Banquet Event Order — The document that lists the food, drink, and any other item that will be provided by the venue hosting the banquet, including the schedule and agreed costs.
Attendee — Any person that has confirmed their attendance by responding to the invitation.
Break Out Session — At a business conference, a presentation on a specific topic for a sub-group of people, usually given in a smaller, separate room.
Cocktail Hour — An hour or two at the end of the day when drinks and light appetizers are served, giving attendees the chance to meet each other and network. There may also be a DJ to play background music.
Proposal or Bid — A detailed plan drawn up by a service provider for your happening, along with their proposed fee.
Open Bar — Guests do not have to pay for alcoholic beverages.
Site Visit — A walk-through of a potential venue where you can discuss the details on food, drink, decor, and organization.
Attire — Indicates the type of clothing guests should wear, for example business casual.
