Mobile homes are very popular, despite the long-standing stigma. These houses provide silimar luxuries as traditional homes, with the advantage of being about to move a different landscape whenever you want. Having a properly installed mobile home is essential for delaying repairs and keeping it looking nice for years. Below are some common parts and accessories used on mobile homes.

  • Skirting – One of the most common accessories, there are often made of vinyl and used in the space between mobile homes and the ground. This equipment helps with insulation, keeps out pests, and adds an additional decorative element to the home.
  • Wood Shims – A piece of wood that used to fix unlevel door jams and floors. If your house’s horizontal plane is off even slightly, you may need to repair your plumbing and cracking walls in the future.

  • Pier – An alternative to a concrete foundation, piers are used to home the home above the ground. This system requires little maintenance, just like traditional foundations.
  • Frame Tie – Another part used in anchoring your home to the ground, these help prevent damage from severe winds.
  • Vent Cap – Equipment placed on top of roof pipes to keep out rain and pests.
  • Roof Flashing – Thin pieces of sheet metal placed around joints to deflect water. No maintenance is needed, but you should check that these sheets are still attached after big storms.
  • Hitch – A specially created system used to move a mobile home easily and safely. It is illegal to tow these houses on a public road without a properly installed hitch.

Mobile homes started out as campers, but became popular as permanent housing in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1976, Congress passed an act applying certain standards and making the official name 'Manufactured home'. Despite this, most people still talk about mobile homes and trailers. The term modular home occasionally shows up. The modern trailer, however, is not particularly mobile. It can only be moved by lifting it onto a truck, which is relatively rare. Modern trailers, especially the larger doublewides, are extremely heavy. Some truly mobile homes do remain, which can be hitched to a truck and easily moved. These are often occupied by migrant workers or retirees. Used mobile homes are commonly sold. Although smaller and cheaper than a fixed home, they require repair and maintenance over time. The sale of parts and accessories includes replacement doors and shutters. It also includes fixed features such as bath tubs or built-in kitchens. Companies may also sell equipment and parts from skirting to bathroom accessories. In some cases, a home may not receive enough maintenance and fall into disrepair. Contractors may be hired to restore it to its original condition and fix problems. They may also repair damage caused by weather. Units are generally attached to mains water and electricity and may require the attentions of a plumber. Home performance experts, who work on weatherizing buildings and otherwise increasing energy efficiency, may also do work on mobiles. Needless to say, equipment for moving modular homes is also part of the picture. Tool kits for the use of homeowners are sometimes sold by accessory companies, but can often be purchased at hardware stores. The area around such homes is generally landscaped, which also requires tools. As with most things, a discount can be obtained by purchasing parts and tools from a wholesaler.
